Taste of Miaoli (One Day Trip)

Want to learn more about the Hakka culture? Join Taiwan Free and Easy Travel for an unforgettable Day Tour to Miaoli.

Picturesque Miaoli in west Taiwan is a city with deep Hakka culture. It is renowned for its hot-springs, wood sculpture, ceramics and Hakka cuisine. The village of Sanyi, south of Miaoli is the hub of the finest wood sculpture culture; a century old tradition. Camphor is mostly used and it came from the mountains around the area. Visit Sanyi Wood Sculpture Musuem; the only wood sculpture museum in Taiwan for a journey into its huge collection of wood artifacts. Stroll the library or join a DIY workshop on wood carving here.

Explore Sanyi Old Street for an introduction to Hakka culture and its authentic cuisine. No longer in operation, a visit to Shengxing Old Train Station is a nostalgic one. So is exploring Longteng Broken Bridge, the ruins from the earthquake that strike in 1935. If you are here from December to April, you are in luck for the strawberry picking. With so much to see and do, Miaoli is always popular for a day trip.
