How We Design a Tailored Taiwan Itinerary for Families
Last spring, a three-generation family reached out to us with a simple request: “We want to experience Taiwan together, but not in a rushed package tour.” The parents dreamed of cultural highlights, the kids wanted fun and hands-on activities, and grandparents just wanted to relax while still being part of the adventure.
That’s where we come in. At Epic Travel Designer, family trips aren’t about ticking off landmarks. They’re about creating experiences that make every member of the family feel included.
Step 1: It Starts with a Conversation
Every journey begins with a message—sometimes a short email, sometimes a WhatsApp note. Families share their travel dates, group size, and budget. From there, we explain what’s included: itinerary design, airport transfers, private driver-guides, accommodations with breakfast, and advance-purchase tickets. Flights and meals remain flexible to suit each family’s style.
Step 2: The Proposal Fee
To begin planning, we charge a proposal fee. This varies depending on season, duration, and group size. If you choose to travel with us, the fee is absorbed into your final tour cost. If not, it covers the thoughtful time and effort we put into tailoring your proposal.
Step 3: Understanding Your Family’s Style
Next, we dive deeper with a WhatsApp chat or call. Are you an active family who loves cycling and hiking, or do you prefer slower days exploring old towns? Do you want boutique hotels, farmstays, or trusted international brands? Are there special needs or dietary requirements?
These details shape the flow of the trip. For some families, that means a farmstay where kids can feed animals. For others, it’s a mix of city buzz and countryside calm.
Family Activities We Love to Include
Over the years, we’ve learned what sparks joy for families traveling through Taiwan:
- Miaoli Railbike – A laughter-filled ride where everyone pedals together on a four-seater bike, surrounded by mountains and rivers.
- Fruit Picking – A seasonal highlight. Depending on the month, you might pick strawberries, grapes, or longans—fresh from the tree.
- Pineapple Tart Workshop – A hands-on baking class where kids and grandparents bond while rolling, shaping, and tasting warm tarts.
- Cycling in the Countryside – Safe bike paths that give city kids the thrill of open spaces, rice paddies, and village life.
- Jiufen Old Street – For those who can fit it in, this lantern-lit hillside town offers street food, sea views, and a touch of nostalgia.
A Sample Day in Miaoli with the Family
Here’s how one day could look:
Morning – Hop on the Miaoli Railbike, pedaling together along an old railway track with scenic valleys unfolding around you.
Midday – Visit a local fruit farm. Children dart between rows of strawberries, baskets filling quickly, while grandparents savor the sweetest picks of the season.
Afternoon – Take part in a pineapple tart workshop. Rolling dough, filling pastry, shaping golden treats—everyone joins in. The smell of fresh tarts fills the air, and you leave with your own handmade box.
Dinner – End the day with a classic Hakka dinner. Shared plates of braised pork belly, stir-fried greens, and traditional flavors bring the family around one table—simple, hearty, and authentic.
It’s not just sightseeing—it’s a day of memories you’ll talk about long after the trip ends.
Step 4: From Proposal to Final Itinerary
Within three days of payment, we send a proposal outlining destinations, activities, inclusions, exclusions, and pricing. This isn’t the final itinerary but a tailored framework. Families can request changes or move forward.
A 50% deposit secures the process, after which we confirm hotels, activities, and logistics. You’ll still have the flexibility to upgrade or adjust before final payment.
Why Families Choose Us
Designing for families means balancing different generations and interests. We’ve created trips where teenagers hiked Taroko Gorge while grandparents soaked in hot springs nearby. We’ve seen families bond over fruit-picking, laugh through railbike rides, and pass down traditions during pineapple tart workshops.
No two Taiwan itineraries look the same—because no two families are alike.
