We thought it was another weekend to chill. Unfortunately, we had to undertake another rescue mission in the middle of Saturday evening.
On Saturday night, we received notifications that there may be a typhoon landing on 22–24 September in Taiwan (the dreaded call/message of every Taiwan travel designer). Our client’s accommodation in Alishan for 22–23 September had been cancelled as it was deemed unsafe.
Suddenly, chill no more—we sprang into action. We quickly contacted our partners, specifically the driver in Taiwan, to discuss alternative plans. Our partner responded swiftly that the typhoon may or may not land in Taiwan, and confirmation would only come on 21 September afternoon.
We contacted our clients immediately to inform them of the unforeseen circumstances and assured them that we would work out alternative plans. As they were flying in on 21 September, we kept in close touch until their arrival.
The Typhoon Update
On 21 September morning, it was confirmed by various news outlets and our partner that the typhoon would not land in Taiwan (thankfully). However, mountainous areas like Alishan would still be unsafe due to heavy rain. The good news: central and northern Taiwan remained safe with little or no rain.
Rerouting the Journey
We quickly came up with alternative plans for our clients—rerouting them to Miaoli instead, still fulfilling their criteria of nature walks and being in touch with the outdoors. Once the client gave their consent, we:
- Cancelled the Alishan accommodation and high-speed rail tickets from Taipei
- Updated the itinerary to reflect their new destinations
- Secured new HSR tickets to Miaoli (even though it was sold out, we managed to get two business-class seats)
- Arranged new accommodations in Miaoli
All this was completed in just 3 hours from notification to action.
Why a Taiwan Travel Designer Matters
This year has been full of rescue missions, from flight diversion in Norway, to Nepal protests and now typhoons in Taiwan. It has been an eventful year. However, our priority always remains clear: keeping clients safe with minimal disruption.
Some say a travel designer is redundant since everything can be booked online or even through AI. But what clients often don’t anticipate are the unexpected challenges: typhoons, cancellations, sold-out trains, or last-minute rerouting.
When you book with us:
- You travel stress-free
- You don’t worry about accommodations, tickets, or itinerary changes
- By the time you land, everything is already taken care of
